Where is Robinson Preserve?
When staying in one of our Siesta Key luxury rental properties, you’ll love staying in as much as you love going out, but when it’s time to adventure around the area, we recommend checking out the Robinson Preserve.
The Robinson Preserve is a salt marsh that is now home to jumping mullets and hundreds of other fish and marine life. This 600-acre coastal preserve is located in northwestern Bradenton, just a short drive from Siesta Key. The main entrance in Bradenton is located at 1704 99th Street NW Bradenton, Florida, while the main aquatic access to the preserve is at 9800 Manatee Ave West.
This wonderful launch site is home to some fabulous sights, including dolphins, manatees at play, and many other types of wildlife you won’t see anywhere else!
What is Robinson Preserve?
Previously farmland in a Bradenton neighborhood known for its tropical plant nurseries, this expanse of waterfront habitats has undergone extensive restoration, from invasive species removal to the re-creation of tidal creeks and basins fed by the rise and fall of Tampa Bay.
The five-story observation tower is its most notable feature. Climb to the top for a breathtaking view of Tampa Bay, including Anna Maria Island, Egmont Key, Fort DeSoto, St. Petersburg, and the Sunshine Skyway. No matter what time of day you visit, the preserve offers some of the best birding on the Gulf Coast.
Hiking and biking trails, as well as a canoe/kayak launch, are among the environmental activities available. There are also observation towers and platforms, picnic areas, and a visitor’s center.
The Mosaic Center for Nature, Exploration, Science, and Technology (NEST), a tree-house and learning space dedicated to guided tours, nature-themed activities, and more, is also located at Robinson Preserve.
This family-friendly preserve is an excellent coastal destination, with trails for hikers, cyclists, and paddlers to explore.

What to Expect
Robinson Preserve has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a peaceful hike, a scenic kayak trip, or a fun day with the family. Here’s what you can expect when you visit this remarkable preserve.
The Robinson Preserve has a number of hiking trails for visitors to explore. The trails vary in length and difficulty, so whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply looking for a relaxing stroll, you’ll find something to suit your needs. The trails are well-kept and well-marked, making it simple to stay on track while admiring the area’s natural beauty.
The Mangrove Tunnel Trail is one of Robinson Preserve’s most popular trails. This half-mile trail takes you through a beautiful mangrove forest. The trail is wheelchair accessible, making it an excellent choice for families with young children or those with mobility issues. As you walk through the tunnel, you’ll be surrounded by towering mangrove trees and the soothing sound of the water below.
Visitors can also go kayaking at the Robinson Preserve. The preserve has several kayak launches from which you can paddle around the park’s mangrove forests and other bodies of water. The preserve’s calm, sheltered waters are ideal for kayaking, making it an excellent activity for experienced and novice kayakers.
Robinson Preserve offers guided kayak tours in addition to the standard Siesta Key kayaking experience. These tours take you on a journey through the preserve’s waterways while teaching you about the local ecosystem and wildlife. You’ll get up close and personal with manatees, dolphins, and a variety of bird species.
Robinson Preserve also has several great fishing spots for those who enjoy the sport. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just starting out, the park’s waterways offer plenty of opportunities to catch a variety of fish. The preserve has several fishing piers as well as a dedicated fishing trail for easy access to the water.
Robinson Preserve offers catch-and-release fishing in addition to traditional fishing. This activity allows visitors to catch and release fish back into the water, which helps to maintain the ecosystem’s balance.
If you’re looking for an outdoor spot to eat, Robinson Preserve is an excellent location for an afternoon picnic. The preserve has several areas with tables and grills where you can enjoy a meal outside. You’ll find something to suit your needs, whether you’re planning a family gathering or simply looking for a quiet place to eat lunch.
Robinson Preserve has several pavilions that can be rented for events in addition to picnic areas. These pavilions provide a covered space for visitors to congregate and are an excellent choice for families looking for a private, shaded area for their picnic.
In addition to picnicking, fishing, and hiking, the Robinson Preserve is also the perfect spot to catch views of wildlife. Home to a variety of species, including manatees, dolphins, and various bird species, visitors can observe these animals in their natural habitats for a unique and educational experience.
The preserve has several observation areas and bird-watching towers where visitors can get up close and personal with the wildlife. Guided wildlife tours are also available, giving visitors a more in-depth look at the animals that live at Robinson Preserve.

The New Expansion
The Robinson Preserve Expansion is now officially open. This new park addition allows you to explore the back side of Robinson Preserve on state-of-the-art rubber mulch trails and beautifully crafted bridges and walkways. The new observation center in this section of the preserve is open on select dates and can be rented through natural resources.
The stunning Mosaic Center for Nature, Exploration, Science, and Technology, or NEST, is located at the newly expanded Robinson Preserve. The NEST is a beautiful multi-purpose space located on the corner of 9th Avenue NW and 99th Street NW in northwest Bradenton.
The Volunteer and Education Division of the Parks and Natural Resources Department manages the building, which houses various hands-on interpretive programming for people of all ages. At the moment, the kayak trails do not connect to the original Robinson Preserve trails, but they will in the future.

Rules
Because of the seasonal abundance of manatees at the southern end of the Robinson Preserve, all visitors are requested to respect the non-pursuit policies. As a guideline, you may visit by paddling near the manatees for up to 30 minutes before moving on to the park trails and enjoying the other wildlife the park has to offer. Manatees typically congregate in the superior aquatic zone. These animals are protected, and their habitats should remain respected and unbothered.
